Yale sailing enjoyed a stellar weekend, claiming victories at three separate regattas to cap off a dominant stretch of competition. The Bulldogs’ coed and women’s teams all delivered impressive performances across multiple venues.
The coed team captured the Open Atlantic Coast Championship at Brown. Saturday’s conditions began with light morning breezes that filled in from the south during the afternoon, ranging from 6-8 knots. Sunday brought southerly winds that strengthened throughout the day, reaching 8-10 knots by the afternoon. Skipper Morgan Pinckney with crew Ella Benedetto claimed victory in A division, while skipper Dorothy Mendelblatt with crew Genevieve Schmidt secured third place in B division.
The women’s team took first place on home waters at the Yale Women’s Regatta. Saturday saw southwest winds ranging from 5-7 knots, increasing to 7-11 knots by the afternoon. On Sunday, the breeze started from the north at 5-10 knots before shifting to the southeast in the afternoon. Skipper Carly Kieding with crew Maren Bradley finished third in A division, and Audrey Foley with crew Annabel Woodworth placed second in B division. Yale and Stanford both finished with 118 points, but the Bulldogs won the tiebreaker by recording more first-place finishes.
Another coed squad added to the weekend haul by winning the Coast Guard Invite on Saturday, held at the Coast Guard Academy. The breeze blew from the north in the morning at 6-8 knots before dying off in the afternoon and shifting to the southeast. The races were completed as a combined-division fleet race. Skipper Thomas O’Grady with crew Margaret Ratzan placed seventh in A division, while skipper Eli Shainker with crew Matilda Twigg won B division.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs will close out their double-handed fleet racing season with competitions at the Schell Trophy at UVM, the Urn Trophy at Dartmouth, and the Nickerson Trophy at Tufts.
