New Boats, Same Result: Rollins Tars Win Lake Virginia Invitational for Second Straight Year

The Rollins Tars win Lake Virginia Invitational for the second consecutive year, debuting their new fleet of FJs while dominating the home regional regatta in Winter Park, Florida. The two-day event featured a two-division scoring format with eight teams competing on the waters of Lake Virginia.

Saturday delivered eight races in each division under a light and shifty northerly breeze of around 8–10 knots. Similar conditions returned on Sunday, allowing six more races per division to be completed and bringing the weekend total to 14 races.

Rollins claimed the team title with 71 points, posting 31 in A Division and 40 in B Division. The Tars finished 16 points clear of second-place Florida State to secure their back-to-back Lake Virginia Invitational victories.

Caleb Kinnear skippered throughout the event in A Division, with Mollie Wood serving as crew for the opening six races. The pair posted five top-four finishes during that stretch, highlighted by three consecutive race wins in races two through four. Cameron Kinnear then joined Caleb for the remaining eight races, and the siblings finished inside the top five in every race they sailed together. The Kinnears tallied five victories, winning race seven before closing the regatta with an impressive string of wins across the final four races.

In B Division, skipper Jack Adderley and crew Alexander Goldsmith remained paired for the entire Invitational. The duo finished inside the top four in 12 of 14 races, collecting four victories along the way in races two, 10, 12, and 13.

Rollins returns to the water next weekend for the SAISA Fall Fleet Race Championships, scheduled for Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1 in Charleston, South Carolina.
