Harvard Sailing Primed for Women’s ACC Final and Captain Hurst Trophy This Weekend

Harvard Sailing is gearing up for a focused weekend of competition, with the squad set to race at two regattas on Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18. The Crimson will send crews to the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship Final, hosted by St. Mary’s in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, and the Captain Hurst Trophy, hosted by Dartmouth in Enfield, New Hampshire.

Conditions in Maryland look favorable for Saturday, with sunny skies, temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s, and brisk winds of 14-16 knots. Sunday will bring a dramatic shift, however, with wind speeds dropping to just 3-5 knots out of the north-northeast to east-northeast. Up in New Hampshire, sailors should expect chilly conditions with temperatures struggling to reach 40 degrees and northwest winds between 13-14 knots on Saturday. Sunday will offer slightly warmer air and lighter westerly winds of 5-7 knots.

This weekend marks Harvard’s lightest schedule of the fall season, with just two events on the docket. Last weekend the Crimson posted a seventh-place result at the Open ACC Round 1 and Long Island Sound Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta, a ninth-place showing at the Stu Nelson Trophy, and a 14th-place finish at the Sister Esther Whalen Trophy.

Harvard enters the Women’s ACC Final riding momentum from its dominant first-round victory two weeks ago in Harpswell, Maine. Zoey Ziskind and Christina Chen handled the A-Division duties, while Kate Danielson and JJ Drummond sailed in the B-Division. Peyton Hadfield served as the reserve ashore. Together, the group posted a winning score of 57, finishing well clear of runner-up Roger Williams at 92. The Crimson will be chasing its first Women’s ACC Final title in program history, improving on last year’s runner-up performance.

At the Captain Hurst Trophy, Harvard will look to build on its seventh-place finish from 2025. The Crimson returns all four sailors who competed at the Dartmouth-hosted event last year: Harrison Strom, Hanah Youn, Jacob Posner, and Amelie Zucker.

Looking ahead, Harvard is scheduled to compete at the Norman Reid Team Race hosted by Boston College on October 24, followed by the two-day Open ACC Final hosted by Brown and the Yale Women’s Regatta, both set for October 24-25.
