RS Aero European Championship 2027 Heads to Dun Laoghaire for Four Days of Racing on Dublin Bay

The RS Aero European Championship 2027 will be held at The National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, Ireland, from 27 to 30 August 2027. The International RS Aero Class has confirmed the event, which promises four days of top-tier racing set against the stunning backdrop of Dublin Bay.

Dun Laoghaire is a well-established sailing destination, offering open-water conditions, outstanding race areas and experienced race management that make it an ideal venue for a major championship. The National Yacht Club further proved its credentials in 2026, hosting two World Championships back-to-back. That experience provides a strong platform for the 2027 Europeans, with the club and event team already proven in delivering high-level championship racing and welcoming large international fleets.

Rosemary Cadogan, Commodore of the National Yacht Club, said the club is looking forward to welcoming the international RS Aero fleet to Dublin Bay for what they hope will be a very memorable experience for all.

Noel Butler, Event Director at the National Yacht Club, added that the organising team is delighted to present the fleet with a unique opportunity to visit Ireland, set sail from historic Dun Laoghaire Harbour and race on the beautiful waters of Dublin Bay.

Located just 20 minutes from Dublin city centre, Dun Laoghaire gives competitors and their families the chance to combine championship sailing with an Irish getaway. Dublin offers everything from the lively streets of Temple Bar and the Guinness Storehouse experience to Trinity College, the famous Book of Kells, Dublin Castle and a vibrant food, music and pub scene. Ashore, sailors can expect plenty of Irish spirit and enthusiasm, with rumours already circulating that there will be no shortage of Guinness.

Ferry connections from Great Britain make the event accessible for UK and EU-based sailors planning to bring their own boats. Updates on ferry discounts, accommodation recommendations from the Irish RS Aero Class and details of the social programme will follow in due course.

Sammy Isaacs Johnson, RS Aero International Class Manager, expressed excitement about bringing the championship to Ireland. Following the huge 195 entries at the 2026 Europeans at the RS Games 2026, she said the class is eager to see how big an international fleet can be assembled in 2027 and whether that number can be beaten. She highlighted Dun Laoghaire’s excellent sailing conditions, experienced event team and brilliant location on the doorstep of Dublin, adding that the socials ashore are set to be just as spectacular as the racing.

For a taste of local conditions, sailors can check out Noel Butler’s video of the RS Aero on full send in Dublin Bay.

Charter boats will be available from RS Sailing, making the championship more accessible to international competitors and those who prefer to travel without their own boat. Further information on charter availability and bookings will be announced soon.

Alex Newton-Southon, Managing Director of RS Sailing, said Dun Laoghaire is already shaping up to be one of the highlights of the 2027 calendar. After kicking off the year with the World Championship in Australia in January 2027, he said it is fantastic to have such an exciting European championship later in the summer. He noted the RS Aero fleet continues to grow internationally, with events like this bringing together close competitive racing, a welcoming global community and fantastic venues. With charter boats available, RS Sailing hopes to see sailors from across the world joining the fleet in Ireland.

Sailors are encouraged to save the date and follow RS Aero and RS Sailing social media channels for further announcements covering entry details, charter boats, ferry discounts, accommodation, sponsors and the shoreside social programme.

Four days of racing. A world-class venue. Irish hospitality. Breeze on!
