SailGP Sassnitz 2025 – SailGP’s high-speed sailing series is set to make a historic debut in Germany next August, with the picturesque coastal town of Sassnitz on Rügen Island hosting two days of elite racing. From August 16–17, 2025, top international sailing teams will go head-to-head in thrilling fleet races staged just off the shoreline, bringing the excitement of SailGP directly to German fans for the first time.
With speeds exceeding 60 mph, the 50-foot foiling F50 catamarans are among the world’s most advanced racing platforms. These sleek vessels hover above the water, powered by cutting-edge technology and precision teamwork, promising heart-pounding, close-quarters action against the backdrop of Sassnitz’s famed chalk cliffs and historic harbor.
This festival of speed will mark the latest stop in SailGP’s marquee global tour, joining iconic venues like Dubai, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Sydney, and Geneva. For Germany, it represents a major milestone: it is the first time the championship will grace German waters, offering a rare opportunity for locals to witness the future of sailing live and up close.
The launch of SailGP in Germany carries extra emotional weight thanks to the Germany SailGP Team, co-owned by four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel and headed by Olympic medalist Erik Heil. After a strong debut season in 2024, the German crew, including sailors Anna Barth, Jonathan Knottnerus‑Meyer, and Felix van den Hövel, will have a well-deserved moment in the spotlight on their home turf.
Sassnitz—a charming seaside resort within easy reach of Berlin and Hamburg—was chosen thanks to its ideal onshore viewing conditions and breathtaking natural beauty. Organizers are planning spectator grandstands onshore so fans can enjoy an immersive, up-close racing experience. Local officials emphasize the event’s positive economic impact, with earlier SailGP stages generating tens of millions of dollars in regional revenue.
The arrival of SailGP also underscores the league’s commitment to sustainability. Teams compete under the Impact League, focusing on reducing carbon footprints, promoting gender equity, and engaging youth—making it one of the first global sports leagues aiming to be climate-positive.
Around 10,000 spectators are expected over the weekend, with family-friendly programming creating a complete summer festival atmosphere.
