Järudd and Jonsson Seize the Lead from Argentinian Silver Medallists at the Nacra València Cup

Sweden’s Emil Järudd and Hanna Jonsson have surged to the top of the Nacra València Cup standings after a dramatic second day of racing at the RCN de Valencia. The Swedish crew overtook Argentina’s Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco, the Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallists who had held the lead after day one, following three races completed in a late-arriving easterly breeze.

A frustrating wait ashore dominated the early hours of the day as a lack of wind in València forced the race committee to delay the first warning signal from 12:00 to 15:00. Once an easterly breeze of 7–8 knots filled in, the committee wasted no time running the planned three-race programme.

Järudd and Jonsson, who began the day in second overall, posted scores of 3-1-10 across the three races. After discarding their tenth-place finish in the sixth race, the Swedes moved into the lead on 13 net points, building on their impressive opening-day scores of 3-1-5.

Majdalani and Bosco had a tougher time on the water, recording 7-8-8 to slip to second overall on 19 points. New Zealand’s Micah Wilkinson and Kate Stewart held steady in third on 23 points with a 12-5-9 scoreline.

Sweden’s Ida Svensson and Marcus Dackhammar sit fourth on 27 net points after results of 2-9-17. Austria’s Lukas Haberl and Clara Stamminger round out the top five on 34 points, having scored 6-9-4.

The remainder of the top ten reads as follows: the United States’ Stephan Baker and Sophia Fisher are sixth on 36 points, Turkey’s Sinem Kurtbay and Alican Kaynar seventh on 43, and Switzerland’s Marie Mazuay and Clément Guignard eighth on 44. Australia’s Ruben Booth and Rita Booth are ninth, also on 44 points.

Spain’s representatives, siblings Daniel and Nora García de la Casa of Club Nàutic El Masnou, complete the top ten in tenth place on 45 net points. After opening the regatta with two fifth-place finishes and an eleventh, the Spanish crew recorded 18-13-11 on the second day.

Organised by the RCN de Valencia, the Nacra València Cup has drawn 24 crews from 17 countries for an international regatta in the Olympic Nacra 17 class. For several competing teams, the event doubles as a key preparation milestone on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
