Etchells Class Faces Key Vote on Footrest Rule Change and IGC Election

The Etchells class is preparing for a significant upcoming vote on a proposed class rule change and the election of a new International Governing Committee. On November 10, 2026, eligible owner members will receive ballots addressing two important matters that could shape the future of Etchells racing.

The first item on the ballot concerns a proposed addition to the Class Rules regarding footrests. The International Governing Committee, acting on the recommendation of the One Design Technical Committee, is putting forward a rule change that would formally allow footrests in the class. Full details of the specific wording and the background behind the proposal have been made available to members through the International Etchells Class Association.

The second item involves the election of seven Governors to serve on the IGC for the 2027-28 term. Fourteen nominees have been put forward from across the international fleet. The candidates are Michael Bellingham (AUS), Shannon Bush (USA), Jim Cunningham (USA), Jose Fuentes (USA), Summer Greene (USA), Chris Hampton (AUS), Adrian Hanley (CAN), Michael Jobin (USA), Andrew Lawson (GBR), Chris Manton (AUS), Peter Merrington (AUS), Jan Muysken (AUS), JC Strong (AUS), and Ron Zarrella (USA). The diverse field of nominees reflects the global reach of the Etchells class, with representatives from Australia, the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Voting will close on December 10, 2026. Any questions regarding the proposals must be submitted to the Class Office by November 15, 2026. Owner members are encouraged to review the materials carefully and exercise their vote before the deadline.
