Tufts Coed Sailing Sits Seventh at ACC Qualifier After Strong Opening Day in Maryland

The Tufts coed sailing team holds seventh place out of 17 teams after the first day of racing at the Atlantic Coast Championships Round 1A regatta in St. Mary’s City, Maryland. Ten races were completed in both A and B divisions on Saturday, with the Jumbos compiling a combined team score of 148, split between 67 in A division and 81 in B division.

The stakes are high heading into Sunday’s racing, as only the top nine teams at the conclusion of the regatta will advance to the ACC finals later this month. Connecticut College currently sits in the crucial ninth-place spot with a score of 153, just five points behind Tufts. Eckerd College is right on the bubble in 10th at 167.

In A division, the Jumbo pair of sophomore skipper Crue Ziskind and senior crew Reddin Kehrli are performing well in fifth place. Their 10 races on Saturday featured seven finishes in the top nine, highlighted by three fourth-place results that kept them competitive near the front of the fleet.

Junior skipper Oliver Keeves and first-year crew Sophie Dart are holding down ninth place in B division. The duo showed flashes of speed throughout the day, winning the third B division start and adding a second-place finish in the second race to anchor their scorecard.

Stanford leads the regatta after the opening day with an impressive 30-49-79 scoring line, putting them well clear of the chasing pack. The Cardinal have built a comfortable margin heading into the final day of competition.

Sunday’s racing is scheduled to begin at 9:45 AM, where the Jumbos will look to protect their position inside the qualifying cutline and secure their spot at the ACC finals. With just five points separating them from the ninth-place bubble, consistent sailing will be key to advancing.
