Bowdoin College skipper Rebecca Schill is set to compete at the ICSA Women’s Singlehanded National Championship this weekend, November 7–8, at the American Yacht Club in Rye, New York. Schill will make her second career appearance at the prestigious national championship, racing for the Janet Lutz Trophy against the top collegiate sailors in the country.
Schill punched her ticket back to nationals after finishing fourth at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Women’s Singlehanded Championship in September. She tallied 64 points across 12 races, including two first-place finishes, to secure her spot in the national field.
The senior has put together an impressive fall campaign, competing in both women’s and open divisions. She helped Bowdoin advance to the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship Finals, where she placed fifth in A Division during the opening round. Schill also represented the Polar Bears at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship.
Schill is no stranger to the national stage. She has been rostered for several ICSA championship events during her time at Bowdoin. Most notably, she was part of the Polar Bears’ historic appearance at the ICSA Women’s Team Race National Championship last spring in New Orleans.
Competition gets underway Saturday with the first warning signal scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Racing continues Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m., with no warning signals after 3:00 p.m. Fans can follow along via the official championship website and live results throughout the weekend.
