Ovington Boats Takes Over Manufacturing of the C Star

In a significant development for the Star class community, Ovington Boats has been announced as the new manufacturer of the C Star, taking over production after seven years of successful building by C Star / Sune Carlsson Båtvarv AB.

Ovington Boats ranks among the most accomplished small boat builders in the world, with deep expertise in one-design and class-rule construction. Their impressive portfolio includes the Olympic Class 49er, 49er FX, and ILCA (formerly the Laser), along with the World Sailing Youth Asymmetric 29er Class, 505, Musto Skiff, VX One, Flying Fifteen, and International 14, among others.

The C Star team has expressed considerable enthusiasm about the transition, with founder confidence that Chris Turner and his world-class squad will bring fresh energy and capability to Star boat production.

Turner himself is eager to get involved. “Having been part of a Star campaign in a technical capacity for the 2012 Olympics, it will be great to be working within the Class again,” he said. “I am looking forward to getting out in one myself!”

Ovington’s extensive experience and stellar reputation in the dinghy-building world are expected to drive continued development of the C Star, making the boat even faster and more reliable. Additionally, the company’s greater production capacity should translate into a more consistent build schedule and shorter delivery times for customers.

For the Star class as a whole, this partnership represents a promising step forward, ensuring that one of sailing’s most iconic keelboats remains in expert hands. Those interested in learning more can reach out to Nathan Batchelor at Ovington Boats for further details.
