Meet Lisa Vucetti: Luna Rossa’s Exciting New Talent for the Women’s America’s Cup

Lisa Vucetti has joined Luna Rossa’s Women’s America’s Cup programme as the Italian challenger’s newest recruit ahead of Naples 2027. The young Italian sailor from Trieste is one of the country’s most promising talents and brings a remarkable record of championship victories to the defending Women’s and Youth America’s Cup team.

Vucetti honed her skills at the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano in Trieste, rising quickly through the Optimist and 420 classes before making her mark in the Olympic 470 Mixed class. Her early career highlights included a runner-up finish in the girls’ division of the 2019 Optimist European Championship and victory in the junior division of Barcolana Young in 2021.

Her Team Racing credentials are equally impressive, with a World Championship title in 2021 and a European Championship title in 2019. Individually, she finished runner-up at the World Championship in 2021, twice at the European Championships in 2019 and 2020, and claimed the Italian Female Championship title twice in 2019 and 2021.

Vucetti then formed a formidable partnership with fellow Trieste sailor Vittorio Bonifacio, and the duo moved into the 420 class with spectacular results. Their 2024 season was nothing short of extraordinary. After claiming silver at the 2024 World Championships, they swept three major international titles in just 28 days: the 420 European Championship in Portorož, the World Sailing Youth World Championship on Lake Garda, and the Junior Mixed 420 European Championship in Thessaloniki. The pair also took the Italian Championship, a title Lisa had previously won in 2023 sailing alongside fellow Luna Rossa Team member Alice Linussi.

Transitioning to the Olympic 470 Mixed class in 2025, Vucetti and Bonifacio continued their upward trajectory. In July 2026, they won the Junior 470 World Championship in Gdynia, Poland, overcoming the defending Israeli champions on a Medal Race tiebreak. Days later, they clinched the Junior European Championship in Nida, Lithuania, completing a stunning World and European double.

Away from the water, Lisa enjoys time in the mountains, snowboarding during winter and cycling through summer.

On 28 October 2026, Luna Rossa officially announced Vucetti’s inclusion in its Women’s America’s Cup squad, opening an exciting new chapter in her career. The Italian challenger confirmed that its coaching staff had been monitoring her even before her Junior 470 World Championship victory. Youth and Women’s programme coordinator Jacopo Plazzi Marzotto commented: “We are very pleased to welcome Lisa. She first caught our attention this summer, before the 470 Junior World Championship, which she went on to win with Vittorio Bonifacio, and she is now confirming our excellent first impressions: she is a technically accomplished sailor with a strong aptitude for teamwork, a quality we value highly.”

Vucetti now joins the team’s AC40 training programme in Cagliari, where sailors are developing the high-performance foiling skills required for competition in Naples in 2027. Her appointment highlights the growing pathway from Olympic-class sailing into the America’s Cup, bringing a young Italian world champion into one of the sport’s most technologically advanced competitive environments.
