Brown Sailing Finishes Regular Season Strong With Runner-Up at New England Fall Championships

Brown sailing delivered impressive results across four events to close out the fall regular season, headlined by a runner-up finish at the New England Fall Open Championship. The Bears showed depth and determination throughout a packed weekend of racing that bodes well heading into the national championship season.

At the New England Fall Open Championship hosted by the University of Vermont, the coed team finished second in the 18-team fleet. Brown entered the final race with a shot at claiming the Erwin Schell Trophy but ultimately finished behind Yale. Blake Behrens, Vera Allen, and Phoebe Fogarty shared A-division duties with Tyler Lamm and Dominic Ciccimaro, finishing fourth overall. In the B-division, Noah Stapleton and Marin Soderberg split duties with James Pine and Reese Corckran, capturing the division title.

The freshmen squad also turned in a standout performance at the Nickerson Trophy, hosted by Tufts. Brown finished second in the 17-team field, with the championship coming down to the final races. Nathan Pine and Madison Mansour led the way, winning the A-division with 25 points across 10 races, including four first-place finishes. The runner-up finish marks the second consecutive year Brown has placed second at the Nickerson, following a championship victory in 2024.

At the Terrier Invite hosted by Boston University, the Bears placed third in the nine-team field, finishing behind Roger Williams and Tufts. Leila Pfrang and Elena Sun led Brown with a fourth-place finish in the combined 18-boat division.

The women’s team wrapped up its fall campaign at the Victorian Coffee Urn Trophy, hosted by Dartmouth College for the New England Fall Women’s Championship. Brown finished fourth overall in the 16-team field, led by a second-place performance in the A-division from Laura Hamilton, Ali McIntyre, and Katherine Majette. Sydney Moyer and Michelle Kaneti added a fifth-place finish in the B-division.

Brown will next send three sailors to the College Sailing Open Singlehanded National Championship, November 7-8, at the American Yacht Club in Rye, New York. New England Champion James Pine will compete alongside at-large selections William Baker and Nathan Pine in the ILCA 7 dinghy.
