Bowdoin Sailing Takes On Atlantic Coast Championships Before Final Fall Weekend

Bowdoin College sailing competed in five regattas over two action-packed weekends, highlighted by appearances at both the Women’s and Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals against elite collegiate programs from across the nation.

The Polar Bears encountered a wide range of conditions throughout the five events. Heavy winds dominated the October 17–18 weekend, while lighter, trickier breezes tested the squad at the Coast Guard Invitational the following weekend.

The October 17–18 slate saw Bowdoin racing at three venues simultaneously. At the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship Finals, the Polar Bears placed 13th overall in a prestigious 18-team field. The regatta completed 14 races in each division, with Rebecca Schill and Maggie Tripp representing Bowdoin in A Division. Mairead Reitzel, Maizie Bartlett, and Yasi Nee competed in B Division, while Caroline O’Hara and Posie Cabaniss served as reserves.

At the Savin Hill Invitational hosted by Boston College, Bowdoin finished 10th overall following 10 races in each division. Noah Reischmann competed alongside Ela Murat and Mo Hijazi in A Division, while Charlie Conover, Clio Foley, and Owen Warren represented the Polar Bears in B Division.

Meanwhile, at the Captain Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth, Bowdoin placed 11th overall in extremely windy conditions. All 10 races in each division were completed on Saturday, with Sunday’s racing canceled due to weather. Michelangelo Vecchio and Owen Benison sailed in A Division, while Henry Ladd and Shea McGrath competed in B Division.

The following weekend brought two more events for the Polar Bears. At the Coast Guard Invitational in New London, Connecticut, Bowdoin earned a solid sixth-place finish while navigating light and tricky conditions on the Thames River. Seven races were completed, with Henry Ladd, Kate Lavalee, Mairead Reitzel, Yasi Nee, Noah Reischmann, and Cole Amaral representing the team.

At the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Finals held at Brown University, Bowdoin finished 18th overall against a field featuring the nation’s top collegiate sailing programs. The Polar Bears recorded several strong individual race finishes but struggled with consistency at the starting line across the 10 races completed in each division. Michelangelo Vecchio, Elizabeth Wire, Eve Cintron, Rebecca Schill, Hazel Johnson, Lucca Antonietti, and Ryan Keenan competed for Bowdoin, with Maizie Bartlett and Owen Benison serving as reserves.

Bowdoin will conclude its fall regular season the weekend of October 31–November 1 with three regattas on the schedule. The Polar Bears will compete at the Schell Trophy hosted by Vermont, the Urn Trophy at Dartmouth, and an invitational hosted by Boston University.
